About This Journey

Why Australia?

At Travel Array, we choose destinations that genuinely move people — and Australia is one of those places that delivers every single time. A continent holding ancient rainforests, the world's largest coral reef system, one of the most iconic harbour cities on earth, and a culture so warm it makes every first-time visitor feel immediately at home. There is simply nowhere else like it.

🌏
A Continent of Contrasts

From the gleaming harbour of Sydney to the ancient tropical canopy of the Daintree, Australia delivers landscapes unlike anything in the world — often within the same trip. Travel Array has crafted this itinerary so you experience two completely different sides of the country without feeling rushed for a single moment.

🐠
Natural Wonders

Home to the Great Barrier Reef — the world's largest living structure — along with UNESCO World Heritage rainforests and more unique wildlife than anywhere on the planet. One of the things Travel Array loves most about this destination is that the natural world here genuinely stops you in your tracks.

✈️
Perfect for First-Timers

English-speaking, incredibly safe, with world-class infrastructure — Australia is one of Travel Array's top recommendations for travelers making their first long-haul international trip. It feels familiar enough to be comfortable, yet utterly extraordinary in everything it shows you.

01
Destination One  ·  3 Nights
Sydney — The Harbour City

Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world — and Travel Array is bringing you right to its heart. The iconic Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, the golden sands of Bondi Beach, and a dining and arts scene that rivals any global capital. We spend three nights here, with a guided city excursion that takes in the must-see highlights, plus a full leisure day to explore entirely on your own terms. Whether you're strolling the Royal Botanic Garden, hopping a ferry across the harbour, or wandering the laneways of Surry Hills, Travel Array gives you the structure to see it well and the freedom to fall in love with it your way.

02
Destination Two  ·  3 Nights
Cairns — Gateway to the Reef

From the cosmopolitan energy of Sydney, Travel Array takes you north to Cairns — a tropical gateway unlike anywhere else on earth. Nestled between the Great Barrier Reef and the ancient Daintree Rainforest, this is one of those rare places where two of the planet's greatest natural wonders sit side by side. Our guided excursion takes you deep into this world — snorkelling the reef, exploring the Kuranda rainforest canopy, or riding the scenic railway through the mountains. Three nights gives you guided depth and still leaves a full leisure day to simply breathe it all in.

The Khaki & White
Welcome Dinner

One of Travel Array's most beloved traditions, the Khaki & White Welcome Dinner kicks off our first full evening in Sydney in true style. Dress in your finest khaki and white, pull up a chair alongside fellow travelers — some familiar faces, some brand new ones — and raise a glass to the journey ahead. Travel Array hosts this dinner as a moment for the group to truly come together before the adventure takes hold. Elegantly set, genuinely warm, and one of those evenings that travelers still talk about long after they've landed back home.

Weather & What to Wear

What to Expect in May

May is one of the best times of year to visit both Sydney and Cairns. Australia's seasons run opposite to the Northern Hemisphere, so May falls in early autumn in Sydney and the beginning of the dry season in Cairns — meaning comfortable temperatures, lower humidity, and ideal conditions for exploring outdoors. You won't be battling extreme heat or unpredictable storms. This is pleasant, walk-around-all-day weather that makes sightseeing genuinely enjoyable from morning to evening.

Sydney  ·  May 15–18
Warm Autumn Days
63–72°F / 17–22°C

Sydney in May is autumn at its most pleasant — sunny days, mild breezes off the harbour, and cool comfortable evenings. You'll rarely see rain during our stay, and the city is at a beautiful in-between temperature where layers work perfectly. Great weather for the harbour walk, Bondi Beach, and the outdoor guided excursion. Evenings are refreshingly cool, perfect for the Khaki & White Welcome Dinner al fresco.

Cairns  ·  May 18–21
Dry Season Begins
72–84°F / 22–29°C

May marks the start of Cairns' dry season — widely considered the best time to visit. The oppressive wet-season humidity has lifted, skies are clear and blue, and temperatures are warm but very manageable. It's ideal weather for reef snorkelling, rainforest walks, and open-air excursions. You'll feel the tropics without being overwhelmed by them — warm, bright, and beautiful every single day.

What to Pack
👗
Light Layers

Pack breathable tops, light button-downs, and casual dresses or trousers. Sydney evenings can dip into the low 60s, so a light cardigan or denim jacket is perfect. Think resort casual — comfortable but put-together.

👟
Comfortable Walking Shoes

Both cities involve a good amount of walking. Bring one pair of sturdy comfortable sneakers or walking sandals for daytime excursions. A nicer pair of flats or loafers works well for dinners and evenings out.

🧴
Sun Protection

Australia's UV index is higher than most travelers expect — even in May. Bring a good SPF sunscreen, a lightweight hat or cap, and UV-protective sunglasses. This applies especially for the Cairns reef and rainforest excursion day.

🥂
Khaki & White Dinner Attire

Don't forget your Khaki & White Welcome Dinner outfit! Think elegant khaki linen trousers or a cream midi dress — elevated but comfortable. This is one of the most photographed evenings of the trip, so dress to feel your best.

Travel Array Tip: A small crossbody bag or day pack works great for both cities. Pack a reusable water bottle — hydration matters more than you think when you're exploring all day in the warm Australian sun. And always keep a light layer handy for air-conditioned restaurants and transfers.
